Mr. José N. Vélez better known as "Napo Vélez" is a native of San Germán. A family man, he started out as a rancher and later ventured into the field of commerce. Being its first supermarket for the year 1970 known as La Ponderosa. This establishment began the development of more businesses. Later, acquiring other businesses such as La Panadería los Cocos and Panadería Napo Vélez. For 2003 the Supermercado y Carnicerí was opened to Napo Vélez in San Germán. Starting other supermarkets, the others being located in Yauco, Guayanilla, Mayagüez and Hormigueros.
